Be informed and well-prepared: Whether you are filing a claim for life insurance, health insurance or auto insurance, you must know the coverage. For this, you should thoroughly read a copy of your insurance policy and know where you stand. Collect all your paper files. In case of property loss, the value of the loss needs to be documented. You may also need to reconstruct destroyed records.

Value of Loss: You may need to come up with an estimate of the loss, since it is often difficult to provide an exact figure. It is also important to note the timeframe your insurance company has set for customers to report the loss.

This person will be responsible for working with you for the estimation and payment of the loss. It is your responsibility to provide the necessary documents to the adjuster and answer his/her queries without delay. This will help you get paid quicker.
